WATER DEPARTMENT LABORER POSITION
The Village of Carrollton is seeking qualified applicants to fill an immediate opening for the position of Laborer within the Village Water Department. This position performs tasks related to the maintenance of the Village water distribution system including, lines, valves and hydrants. This position also is responsible for the metering services for the department. A successful applicant must possess a valid Ohio driver's license, pass a pre-employment drug test and upon a conditional job offer, pass a criminal background check. This position offers public employees' retirement, a full benefit package including sick/vacation, family insurance, and a starting wage of $19.00 per hr. General Purpose:
Under the direction of the Plant Superintendent. Responsible for maintaining water distribution lines, valves and hydrants.
Supervision Received:
Works under the direct supervision of the Water Treatment Plant superintendent or assistant.
Position Characteristics:
This position is capable of performing tasks ensuring that the public and co-workers receive the highest standards of public service. Responsibilities include performing infrastructure repair and construction work, independently in day-to-day situations. Supervision is provided in difficult and unusual situations.
Required Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of confined space entry procedures; knowledge of shoring guidelines and procedures, ability to operate excavators dump trucks, jack hammers, leak detectors, line tracers, and concrete saws.
Essential Functions:
- Makes pressurized taps on water mains
- Maintains, flushes, repairs water hydrants
- Lays water lines
- Operates excavators, jet truck and dump trucks
- Repairs asphalt and concrete at job sites
- Exercises safety practices and procedures at job sites
- Maintains equipment and vehicles
- Exercises and repairs water valves
- Locates water mains and leaks
- Maintains grounds operated by Water Department
Education, Experience and Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; Ohio Driver's License, the ability to obtain a class I water license within 24 months of employment. and the ability to perform a minimum of lifting/ physical exertion requirement of 50 pounds.
Working Conditions:
Water treatment Plant and system employees work both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to noise from machinery. The work is physically demanding and is often performed in unclean conditions. Employees must pay close attention to safety procedures due to the presence of hazardous conditions, such as slippery walkways, dangerous gases and unstable soil conditions. Occasionally employees must work during emergencies such as waterline breaks under extreme pressure to correct the problem as quickly as possible. Plants operate 24 hrs a day and 7 days a week therefore, employees work an eight hour day, 5 days a week and weekends and holidays on a rotating basis. Employees are on call and may be required to work overtime.
Part-Time Patrolman

Successful applicants must possess a valid Ohio Driver's License, current O.P.O.T.A. Certification, be able to pass a criminal background check and drug test, and be willing to work varying shifts.
